Seven Summits Consulting sees customers as a critical part of any organization’s strategic plan. It doesn’t matter if it is a government agency, a not-for-profit organization, or a company in manufacturing or retail; customers are the lifeblood. Without customers, a government agency or non-profit may not have a reason to exist. In the private sector, a company without customers will likely not be able to generate any revenue.

The challenge for leaders is putting aside the tendency to think of customers in the short-term, and instead thinking strategically; focused on what the customer base will need to be to meet the organization’s future goals. Far too many leaders ignore the critical (but difficult) role of looking to the future, instead choosing to involve themselves in the present. Our next post will dive a little deeper into how leaders can think of customers in a more strategic way.
